Sponsored TriathlonI write to you to ask for your support, in a rash moment I decided to take part in a Triathlon. This consists of 3 disciplines firstly a 1500m swim, followed by a 40km bike ride with a 10km run to finish! This took place on 19th July in Bedford - the swim was in the river Ouse! Yuk! The bike leg takes me out into the glorious countryside and the run is along the Embankment. I am writing to let you know about this as I am also raising some money for a very worthy cause. The ITP Support Association is a wholly independent UK organisation and registered charity giving support and impartial advice to patients with ITP and their clinicians. £1,000 raised so far! I have not pledged to raise any specific amount so it's really a case of making a donation if you wish to . In 1998 I was diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) - no, I'd never heard of it either . To cut a long story short and after a great deal of drug treatment which didn't work I had a splenectomy in 1999 and have been in remission since. Many people are not so lucky. At approximately the same time as I was diagnosed the ITP Support Association was set up - and ironically their HQ is in Bolnhurst in Bedfordshire. Sadly neither I nor the specialists who treated me had any knowledge of this charity - it would have been an enormous support to have had such a helpful and informative point of contact at such a strange time in my life! It was a lonely and confusing journey for me and my family and I was lucky to have such a positive outcome. If you feel inclined to make a donation to give support for ITP sufferers and their families I would be grateful if you could sent a cheque payable to The ITP Support Association Charity reg no 1064480.. with your name and address on the back and whether the payment can be gift aided (if you are a UK tax payer then it can!) Please visit www.itpsupport.org.uk for more info. It is also possible to make an online donationhere. However I will have no knowledge of this donation unless you choose to let me know (please!) about it if you select this method. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you all have a happy, healthy and sunny summer! With love, Susie Wetton |
