Confidential Survey 2007 for adults and children with ITP

It was hoped to identify the following:-

  • To what extent does ITP actually affect every day life
  • To what extent does ITP cause anxiety about every day life or activities
  • In the current PC climate, does bruising give rise to suspicion of violence
  • Is reliable help readily available, if so from where
  • To provide help in the determination of questions or issues to include in subsequent surveys

The results have been compiled into a booklet and sent to all members but is also available here.

Part of the results from the 2007 survey were presented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), December 6-9, 2008, San Francisco, CA, It is available here.

See also "Analysis of the ITP Support Association lifestyle survey" presentation by Ameet Sarpatwari at the 2008 Convention here.

Notes
To avoid having to interpret textual answers or to assign numerical values or judgements to their answers, respondents were asked to circle Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Often or Always. This approach may not yield specific data on duration or severity but should even out some of the expected variation in perception, it being assumed that some will be quite numerate, some not.

As far as possible, questions were asked to allow straight forward analysis, so little scope was allowed in answers. To allow for us having missed a topic, a class of answer such as "other" was included, more to inform the design of subsequent surveys than to include in this one.

The survey was designed for easy data input into a spreadsheet, there being no specific data analysis software available.
