Dominic Trowbridge - Fund RaisingDominic has now successfully completed his charity challenge of not eating sweets & anything chocolate and we are all very proud of him and amazed at his strength of willpower! You can help Dominic by clicking here. (We are experiencing technical difficulties at the moment so if you don't find a drop down box for Dominic Trowbridge on the donation page please choose 'General' then e-mail info@itpsupport.org to inform them your donation was in support of Dominic.) Tegan was diagnosed with ITP at the age of 3 & Dominic was only 5 at the time and had to miss out on lots of things such as going to play centres and doing the normal rough & tumble things that children like to do. At times this was difficult for him but he understood and when she was very poorly it frightened him. When Tegan was not allowed to go to school for a period of time, Dominic became frustrated & upset. By then we had discovered the ITP Support Association and we were able to better understand the condition and deal with the various issues. It also meant that during periods of remission we were able to be more active. We read things to Dominic and his understanding improved and this really helped him and we were all grateful for this. He had become stressed at times, feeling Tegan got all the attention, so knowing more helped him a great deal. A note from Dominic: My name is Dominic Trowbridge and I am 11 years old, 10 when I started this challenge. In 2006 I tried to get my primary school to choose the ITP Support Association as their charity but there were lots of charities to choose from so when I did not succeed I decided to do something for myself and set a target of £300. I am now at Bredon Hill Middle School in Year 7. I love sport and I play rugby, football & cricket but also enjoy computer games. I have had hospital visits too - including a broken wrist, 5 stitches in my forehead and pneumonia but ths helped me understand how Tegan had felt having to keep going into hospital regularly when she was so young. I don't like Tegan having ITP but I understand it much better now and that is because the ITP Support Association send my mum loads of information. So, after eating a huge bar of chocolate on New Year's Eve 2007 (& feeling quite sick), I came up with the idea of not eating sweets or anything chocolate or chocolate flavoured for a year to raise money for them. A lot of people thought it would be too difficult to do - including my mum - but once I started I didn't want to give up. It was difficult and annoying at times because people always give you sweets at parties but once people knew, they were kind and gave me something different instead. My teacher gave me 2 apples at Christmas - she wrapped them up, it was cool!! I got through January 2008 with only my family knowing as I wanted to make sure I could do it first before I started telling everyone. I didn't tell Tegan to start off with but she guessed! Lots of people agreed to sponsor me so I'm hoping they will be able to do so now I have finished. Thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout the year, I'm glad i've done it but relieved I can eat what I want now! Please can you now donate your sponsor money so that the ITP Support Association can continue to help other families like mine. Thank you :) You can do something good today by clicking here.
